Trip to Manilla Cancelled

The Club decided to tentatively schedule a trip to Manilla and some 15 people expressed interest in attending. The date we set was the weekend of the 25th Sept 2010. Unfortunately, we have found out that there are some 250 RC pilots staying and flying at Manilla that weekend whcih will make both flying and accommodation difficult or impossible.

That event for HSS is cancelled and we are checking out other dates that may be suitable. the closer we get to summer, the more violent the thermals can be. If you are inexperienced in thermal flying (like me) this can cause anxienty. There are some things we can do to limit this problem, such as flying earlier in the day and flying more docile wings (I believe these may be available for hire from Godfrey). In any event, it will be a great event for the club and we should make an effort to make it happen.

A similar day at Hooley Dooley could be organised as an alternative as the weather becomes more suitable for that site. If you have ideas/preferences, please post them here or call myself or Neil Bright.

Had a great fly today at Merewether. It was great to see lots of people out – especially Paul and Ben – just finishing off their course and doing very well. Congrats guys.

I should mention also that for those who didn’t attend last Month’s reserve repack night, it was an excellent event. Che gave us a very thorough understanding about the principles of repacking. An excellent job Che – thanks very much. In addition we had a great social event – plenty of laughs and some good tucker. Thanks Craig for the coooking.

Setup info

To the committee members:

I have setup a Gmail account for hunterskysailors@gmail.com all members and only members should be added to this contact list. The password for that account will be circulated to committee members privately as will be the login details for this site admin. When we wish to send an email we simply login to the Gmail account : click here

Then click “contacts” and “select all” and “email”. This way, no one’s email address will be added without an authorised login and we can remove addresses easily.

Flying Events on Sundays After Club Meetings

The weather has certainly been against us this winter, but nevertheless, James has taken the initiative and will organise an event of one kind or another on the Saturday following the Club Meeting. This will hopefully be a flying event – weather permitting – where there will be plenty of opportunity for new pilots to be shown the ropes and get hand helpful tips. If the weather is bad, there may be a video shown at some-one’s home or we may just get together for coffee or lunch and stare out at the white caps and will them away. :-)

If you want to receive SMS alerts when the weather is on for flying, text your request to Brent on 0408826455

If you want to receive email about club events click here to send your request.
